Castle Hill is where the geography of Nice becomes clear: the sweep of the Baie des Anges on one side, the ochre roofs of the Old Town and the port on the other.
Take the long way up
If time and weather allow, the climb is part of the pleasure. Each turn opens a different fragment of the city before the full panorama appears at the top.
Look in both directions
The famous bay commands attention, but the port side is equally rewarding. Walk across the park between viewpoints rather than stopping at the first terrace.
Descend into evening
As the light softens, return toward Vieux Nice for an aperitif or continue toward the port. The transition from viewpoint to city streets is one of the loveliest parts of the ritual.
